Lieutenant Governor Nominee John Reid to Visit Tangier Island Saturday

BY MILES LAYTON

Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor John Reid will visit Tangier Island this Saturday for a short but meaningful tour, offering islanders a chance to meet one of Virginia’s rising political figures. WELCOME!

Reid, a longtime conservative voice and former radio host, is running on a platform of strong leadership, limited government, and preserving traditional American values. Known for his passion for public service and deep respect for Virginia’s rural and coastal communities, Reid said he’s looking forward to experiencing Tangier’s unique culture and meeting the people who call the island home.

During his visit, Reid will be guided by none other than Tangier’s own Mayor James “Ooker” Eskridge, who plans to drive him around the island in his familiar golf cart. The two will stop along the way to greet residents, chat with fishermen and families, and hear directly from locals about their hopes and concerns for the future of the island.

“John wants to listen,” Eskridge said. “This isn’t just a photo-op. He’s interested in what Tangier folks have to say.”

The visit will also include a stop for lunch at Lorraine’s, the beloved island restaurant known for its crab cakes and friendly hospitality. Islanders are encouraged to swing by if they’d like to say hello, shake hands, or share a quick story with the candidate.

Reid’s visit comes at a time when Tangier continues to face challenges related to erosion, economic sustainability, and transportation access. Supporters of Reid say his understanding of small-town life and experience working with rural communities make him a natural ally to places like Tangier.

The Republican nominee has said he wants to be a lieutenant governor for “all Virginians,” and that includes communities often left out of statewide conversations. His tour of Tangier reflects a broader effort to connect with voters in every corner of the Commonwealth, not just the population centers.

Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to keep an eye out Saturday morning and early afternoon. Whether you’re grabbing lunch at Lorraine’s or enjoying a walk near the harbor, there’s a good chance you’ll cross paths with Reid and the mayor.

For an island that values relationships and hospitality, Saturday promises to be a special opportunity to welcome a potential future leader of Virginia — Tangier style.
