New Town Hall Public Meeting: Chance To Meet Normand St.-Pierre

BY MILES LAYTON

Public Hearing

Pursuant to 24.2-228 of the Code of Virginia, an interim appointment shall be made by the Town Council to fill the vacancy thereof. Council shall provide the name of the proposed appointee as well as make available for inspection, a resume for any members of the public who choose to review. This public hearing must be held 7 days prior to the public meeting in which vote will be taken.

The public is welcome to join Town Council & comment on the proposed appointment of Normand St.-Pierre to the vacant town council seat at 5 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the “new” Town Office.

***Official vote on the appointment will occur at our monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Friday, May 23, at Tangier Combined School***

If appointed, Normand St.-Pierre, a world traveler and retired Ohio State Professor, said he is ready to serve on the Town Council.

On that note, I interviewed Normand on Sunday — a good guy with a lot of great ideas. An interview with Normand will appear in a future post on the Town’s website.

Town Hall recently moved from the old Airport building. Cramped there too.

The “new” Town Hall — a more prominent location in the heart of town — is nice, inside and out. Spoke to Councilman Tommy Eskridge who gave me a tour on Sunday. Thanks! Place used to be an old dentist’s office and before that, a medical clinic.

Eskridge beamed with pride about how there’s a lot more space, many renovations, nice chairs — even a framed picture from a top photographer, Jay Fleming. When you approach the photo, the clouds seem to move — nice touch Jay; don’t know how you did that.

For Trump fans, the Situation Room—where wise old men solve all the world’s problems—has a President Trump poster on the wall. I LOVE IT!!!

My advice — go to the meeting to meet Normand and check out the new Town Hall.

Last note: Like Trump in Washington, Eskridge is very optimistic about the good things the Town Council has been doing and will be doing in the days to come. Optimism and energy speak volumes about where Tangier is headed.

Councilman Eskridge is showing Fleming’s amazing photo of Tangier.

See the photo in person — NICE!

True words, whether in Tangier or Washington.
