Tangier Combined School’s prom was Friday – thx for the photos Loni Charnock.
The lights were low, there was a chandelier, a balloon arch, food, and a lot of good music—the same as proms near and far.
On that note, if there is anyone with more photos that you’d like to add, send them to me via Facebook or email at mileslayton1969@gmail.com

A few things – next Saturday, May 10, the movie/documentary “Been Here Stay Here” is being shown twice on May 10 — two FREE screenings —5 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. at the Tangier Rec. Center. Click here for a preview.
Since many other folks have seen our website, during the past several weeks, there has been a fundraiser to raise $10,000 to transform the Rec Center into a one-night pop-up theater, complete with a 20-foot screen, professional sound, and theater-grade projection. All funds will go directly toward producing the event and making the screening free and accessible to all islanders.

Side Note — Next week, I’ll post details for visitors to Tangier about how to travel to the Island, ferry schedule, places to stay, eat, etc.
Filmmaker David Usui said Tangier Island holds deep meaning for anyone who loves the Bay, its heritage, and its people.
“For over six years, those folks have been documenting the lives of Tangier residents as they face rising seas, economic challenges, and the slow erosion of a way of life,” Usui posted to social media. “But Been Here Stay Here isn’t a story of despair. It’s a story of resilience, faith, and fierce love—for land, legacy, and each other. Now, it’s time to bring the film home.
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 11 – so honor your mother like the Bible says – Fifth Commandment. On that note, Father’s Day is June 15.
On another note, I saw a guy wearing a Tangier VFD t-shirt the other day – he was in NC. He wasn’t a member of the fire department, but the man said he enjoyed his visit to Tangier.
