New Business

Adjournment

Speaking of Town Hall, the new Town Hall officially opened its new office Monday at the old health center. This is excellent news!  A lot of work and elbow grease went into moving Town Hall from point A to point B.

There’s a lot of news that will be posted later this week to get folks caught up with Tangier happenings and such.

For now, the movie/documentary “Been Here Stay Here” is being shown twice on May 10. Mayor Ooker Eskridge saw the movie’s premiere on the mainland with a bunch of folks. By all accounts, this is a great movie, perhaps a game changer for saving the island.

Since a lot of other folks see our website, I’m reposting what David Usui said about helping bring “Been Here Stay Here” to Tangier Island —a place that holds deep meaning for anyone who loves the Bay, its heritage, and its people.

For over six years, those folks have been documenting the lives of Tangier residents as they face rising seas, economic challenges, and the slow erosion of a way of life. But “Been Here Stay Here” isn’t a story of despair. It’s a story of resilience, faith, and fierce love—for land, legacy, and each other.

Now, it’s time to bring the film home.

We’re hosting two FREE screenings on Tangier Island May 10th—5:00pm & 7:30pm—for the community that trusted us with their story.

And we need your help to make it happen.

This isn’t just a movie night—it’s a homecoming, a community gathering, a space for healing and dialogue. We’re inviting local leaders, nonprofits, and Bay advocates to come together and witness what’s at stake—not just for Tangier, but for the entire Chesapeake.

Why does this matter? Because Tangier is more than a symbol of climate change. It’s a living, breathing place—often left out of the national conversation. Our film bridges divides and brings people together through shared values: family, faith, and love of place.

Our goal: Raise $10,000 to transform the Tangier Rec Center into a one-night pop-up theater—complete with a 20-foot screen, professional sound, and theater-grade projection. Every tax-deductible dollar goes toward making this experience unforgettable for the islanders.

Every bit helps—$5, $10, $100—whatever you can give.
