Reminder: Tangier Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Tangier Combined School.
When the meeting minutes from February’s council meeting are officially approved at tonight’s meeting, they will be posted, probably tonight, after the meeting.
A few things – the Town’s website has had 11,327 views from 3,160 visitors as of Thursday morning. Those figures will surely climb after tonight’s council meeting as they usually do after we post something major. The more people that view the website, the more that webpage will climb in Google’s algorithms for the search engines – that’s good news.
Pretty soon, Tangier will be making regional if not national headlines again because the premier of “Been Here Stay Here” at the DC Environmental Film Festival Festival in Washington, DC, will be held March 20-29 in venues throughout the DC Metro Area. That’s sure to attract attention to Tangier and the website.
Social media – we’ve flooded several social media sites with many photos from the island, including nice homes, beaches, school, churches, snow photos, and so much more. These posts have attracted thousands of views which may help bring tourists and other folks to the island to explore.
Residents should reach out to me (Miles Layton) via Facebook to share positive news about the island. The goal of this website is not only to promote the people, places and culture of Tangier but to share important information from Town Hall.
Moreover, in time, we hope to build the webpage into a platform that can provide important information about traveling to the island, times for church services and town happenings, how to volunteer, such as mowing grass, and promote our local businesses. We can even post the Honor Roll from Tangier Combined School.
Know, that Tangier’s people are very blessed indeed with a great place filled with welcoming folks who embrace the community and want to make their corner of the world a better place to live.
Please, send me your stories and news tips – my Facebook photo is a picture of that white wooden Christian cross that says “Christ Is Life” that I think Mayor Ooker Eskridge built in the green marsh.
