Photos and videos posted to social media show that the Chesapeake Bay has more than a bit of ice flowing in these waters. Click the link to this video to see the icebreaker based in Crisfield doing its thing.
In recent days, island folks came together around a bonfire to embrace each other’s company, enjoy a stunning sunset and a starry night by the Brigadune Inn.
Reminder, Tangier Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Swain Memorial Methodist Church Sunday School building, per Mayor Eskridge and Town Council. As soon as the meeting’s agenda is available, that’ll be posted.
And as Tangier Combined School’s parents, students and staff know, due to snow and poor road conditions, Friday will be a snow day for all ACPS students and 10-month staff. Exams for middle and high school students will be on Monday and Tuesday. There will not be a staff development day, and the teacher workday will be Wednesday, January 29. The new semester will begin on Thursday, January 30. The two missed school days will be added to the calendar at the end of the school year unless the School Board approves taking it from other scheduled days off.
Flashback to the icy winter of 1977-78 when the Bay was so frozen that food and supplies had to be airlifted to Tangier. The ice was thick enough for people to walk across the bay to the Eastern Shore. Carol Pruitt-Moore said she rode on a motorcycle halfway to the target ship in the Bay then walked the rest of the way.
Folks, if you have pictures or news tips, preferably positive news about Tangier, send it to me, Miles Layton, at mileslayton1969@gmail.com or reach out via Facebook messenger.
